Sisters Grimm at Lush

I thought getting to see dragsterbarbie on a weeknight was a treat,
then I got to see Sisters Grimm as a bonus. Marissa and Victoria Grimm
(ok, their real last name is Stern) are identical twin sisters from New
York, and they play Bass and Guitar, respectively. They both sing leads
and harmonies, they're tarty as all get out, and they rock hard. Too bad
they have a guy on drums, or it would have been a rockin' hot all-grrrrl
show.
Musically, I'd place them somewhere between The Donnas and the NY Dolls. They're somewhere between punk and hard rock and glam rock. The band they remind me the most of is an 80's LA band called the Little Girls, which was also teen twin sisters (Caron & Michelle Maso) who wrote and sang cool rock-n-roll harmonies. The big difference being that The Grimms play the music they write, and play it well. Unfortunately for The Sisters Grimm, nobody told them that LA clubs don't easily fill up for out-of-town bands on a week night. There might have been 30 to 50 people there for dragsterbarbie, but most of them left, so The Sisters Grimm played to about a dozen of us, including most of dragsterbarbie. As Marissa put it, it was a dining room set. Watch for `em if they come back to town, as they deserve a bigger audience than that. Lush is a disco, so they don't have well-focused lighting for a rock show. They also have a smoke machine, and whoever was running it basically put the pedal to the medal for Sisters Grimm. Thus, not many of my pictures came out very well. There are a few good ones there, so enjoy. |
