Okay, in accordance with the Publicity Release form I signed with the House of Blues, I've taken down all the pictures that I shot from this performance. If you want to see some of them, I think the Piper Downs might have borrowed a few to put up on their site. If you need to get ahold of more of them, let me know.Okay, on with the show. This is probably the biggest gig the Piper Downs have ever done, and they flat out kicked ass. They rocked the audience. They rolled the audience. Women were throwing their underwear onstage and flashing the band. They claimed to be bigger than God and then people were burning their records (wait, no, that was the Beatles). Bobby sang his heart out. Garner shredded his solos. Jason's drumming was incendiary (I told him that and he thought it was a novel use of the word ... apparently he hasn't seen Almost Famous yet). And of course, Yell played his legendary bass solo. The LAPD played a long and varied set. Day from Dig This joined them for several songs on keyboards to great effect. Bobby did a couple of songs solo while the band took a break. As if their excellent set wasn't enough, one of their friends proposed to his girlfriend during a break in the set. I think my favorite of the night was Bottle Rocket which seemed particularly spirited and really got the audience moving. But enough yakkin'. I've put the legal disclaimer and my photo notes at the bottom of the page so you can get strait to the pictures. Enjoy - |

First of all, my legal disclaimer that these pictures are available
courtesy of the House of Blues. My aggreement with them also says that
I have to take them down after 30 days, so enjoy them while you can.
I'd also like to thank the House of Blues for letting me shoot, and
particularly Rocky, the security guy, and the Production Manager (whose
name I didn't get) for allowing me to shoot with a flash for one song.
It's normally their house policy to allow no flash.
I actually shot 177 pictures between the dressing room and the gig, which is the second most pictures I've shot for a single show. Since I had to shoot without flash for most of the show, the quality of most of the pictures was less than my usual fare. Fortunately, since I shot so many pictures, there were a reasonable number (about 75) that came out looking decent enough to do justice to the fine show the PDs performed. Enjoy - |
