Desperation Squad are kind of unusual. At heart I'd say they are a punk band, but their songwriting is too melodic for punk for the most part. So let's pigeonhole them into Pop-Punk, being the narrowminded sorta people we are. They also play a country song, that's pretty shit-kicking good. They also have one band member, Becky, who plays instruments like hand-truck and hubcap. Their lyrics are mostly irreverent and humorous, whether it's mocking sexual orientation or drug problems, or claiming to have the best ass in rock & roll. They have a lot of fun onstage, and that fun conveys well to the audience. When I saw them at Goldfingers (about a week after this show), they were playing the Toy Dolls over the sound system while they were setting up, and that was a pretty good fit. `Nuff said.
